When he sees a neurologist they will probably do a test that involves strobe lights while he is having an EEG. That will be able to tell if he is photosensitive to strobe effects, which would mean he can have seizure triggered by flashing lights. Other visual triggers can be light & dark contrast or certain patterns.
Some things can help such as not sitting to close to the screen, not playing in a dark room or when the TV is not adjusted & the screen flickers. Also, many people with seizures have an aura feeling before a seizure, & this could warn him to turn off the game.
As a general rule, when u have any questions ask ur doctor.
Hi there. I am a 29 year old female with epilepsy.
All of those types of gaming consoles can cause seizures...but there r some tips to help to avoid them.
Make sure u play in a well lit room
Sit further away from the TV
Make sure u take regular breaks..this one is hard when u r really getting into a game. I set an alarm, & when it goes off, I pause the game no matter what & take a 10 min break.
If u r tired DO NOT PLAY!
Some games pose more of a risk, if they having flashing parts etc.
The other thing he can try, is to wear an eye patch over one eye as this helps me out. I have no idea why, but someone gave me the tip & I find it helps.
Not all epileptics r photo-sensitive though, so it might not be that he is affected at all, but he should follow the guidelines above to be on the safe side.
oh sweet heart yes they can, it does not mean that he can not play. They can over stimulate the brain and therefore cause seizures. Have him sit farther back from the console it gives his eyes and brain better adjustment and simulation time. Good luck. The less stress he is under the better he will be.
I believe all systems cause seizures if your prone to have them, but I think that sitting farther away from the screen helps. Also I think you are supposed to take a break at least once as much as twice per hour.
yes it can. The flashing in certain games can cause seizures.
